Problem with configuration of Epson TM-T88II and Till Drawer

Hi there, im very keen to get this sorted.  I've been trying to configure this thing for 2 days now and am pulling my hair out.

My machine has 2 com ports. I have the Epson TM-T88II into COM1, and the Cash Drawer is connected into the Port on the back of the Epson Printer.

Now i don't have a Windows Driver for the printer. Do i need one?

Secondly i have set the till configuration screen to

    Printer = Epson T88 (Port 1)

and the cash drawer is set to Printer (Port 0)

Neither the printer or the cash drawer function!!

     Please advise.

If Windows keeps wanting a driver - unlikely with a serial printer - use the Generic Text Printer to shut Windows up!

For the port, enter COM1 in the 'Port' box.

On the TM88 series, enter currency symbol as # if you want it to print a £ sign.  Silly Americans when they came up with ASCII character set hadn't discovered Europe then Wink

Thats a new one on us!

During the boot-up process, does it look like some data is being pumped to printer (eg, data/form feed LED on).  As experiment, once booted up, switch printer off and on to see if that resolves - I can only think there is some invalid data already in printer before pctill starts....

Re: Problem with configuration of Epson TM-T88II and Till Drawer

OK Update.  I'm pretty sure its a configuration/initialsation error.

I'm thinking Dip Switch settings on the printer against the COM1 settings in control panel... im not sure what they should be or weather i should just have to experiment.

Now to make this more ...... interesting.... i realised yesterday, after giving up with this one, that i had tried 2 other trial versions of paid POS systems.  Neither were suitable, but both printed properly.  So i retried those ones.  It turns out that one of them, seems to init the printer in someway.

If i run that program first, even if just to quit out, then Lettronics PCTill works properly from then on.  Untill the machine is rebooted, then its crap again, untill i start this rival program...

Now the rival program is not suitable for the job and i need to get Lettronics PCTill working before the 30 day trial (29 days left) of this other program expires.

    Any thoughts now?

    Printer shouldn't need any init.

Can you check the Windows COM1 settings (in device manager) match the DIP settings on printer - wondering if the other program modifies the Windows settings temporarily.....

what should the dip switches and com port in control panel be set to to work as standard? the printer is a second hand one so might have a few altered settings

They need to match, thats all.  The DIP switches control things like baud rate, bits per byte, stop bits and so on.  IIRC, Epson default is 7 bits per byte.  You need to check owners manual to get DIP switch functions - had a look here but lost my one :(

used to be able to download manuals from www.epson-pos.com - need (free) registration though. TM88 getting on a bit, but likely still supported by them
